Early bird usually get the best thing in life. So does these people who throng the sea to catch some fish. Some do it for fun while some do it as their profession. Brunei waters are not polluted due to lack of industrial affluent discharge to the sea (which is a good thing by the way) which made the catch safe to consume. But lately the number of fish near the bay is getting less every year due to over fishing. The authority has to do something about it in my opinion, if not, the livelihood of the people who depends on it will be in jeopardy.

Sprawling area of houses on stilt on an island opposite the mainland in Kota Kinabalu was believed to housed the illegal people from the island surrounding Philipines. Im not sure whether its true or not. But that was the rumour was flying around. Anyhow politics aside, the early morning sun shower adds to the view of a serene scene. Actually houses on stilt are not specific to Sabah only. Its a common sight in the Borneo Island where the majority of the population are fishermen. Taken at the long end of the 100-400mm,

Bayon

Believe or not, the remnants of the architectures of the past stands still albeit the harsh condition of Siem Reap. The statues or faces was supposed to be one of the Jayavarman, who once rules the country. It was stated that he build for the public for example libraries, hospitals and communal bath. You can also observe there were plenty of places for worshipping their gods. But thats about it, the place was abondoned and nobody live in the area for so long until it was discovered again by a team of explorer abou 100 years ago eaten alive by the sprawling jungles.

Rodeo Drive

A small opportunity arise before we are going off to Los Angelese International Airport enroute to Chile. A colleague who had a friend there, took us to Rodeo Drive to take some pictures as our momento during our stay in the USA. Albeit a short period of time, it was enough to feel the capitalist nature of the city where retailers drive the economy in totality. You can see the major brands occupying th street waiting for customers to splurge a few thousands dollars. I for one cant afford the expensive tags. So I went for picture taking spree instead in a cold December morning.

Shaolin

I think I didnt even wink when I watched the show. It was that good. This scene was basically showing that the boy was getting the wisdom of the Shaolin master. The effect was really interesting that it keeps you at the edge of your seat throughout the time. I remember this show was brought in to Brunei a few years back and was held in the indoor stadium. Im not sure whether it was exactly the same people, but the storyline was more or less the same. Try to catch one show if you are happen to be in Beijing. Highly recommended.

Skytrain

The mass transport system takes different form in acountry. Some take it underground, and some taking it on the ground and some seen a mix of both. But in Bangkok, they have to put it on the sky literally. From my understanding that the soil limitation make it impossible to have it underground. Major part of the city mass transport is in the sky especially in the shopping area. You have to be fit to go up the stairs although some are provided with escalator. But if you lugging with your children, its quite challenging.

Palacio de La Moneda Protectores

I was enjoying the sunny yet cool day in Santiago which is alien to me. All signs are in Spanish and I can easily blend with the people without looking foreign. Buildings have modern and old feel. The churches have a Spanish influence to it. The picture above is one of the old building, still guarded by the police(?) probably. I just cant pass up a chance like that without taking a snap. I wish I had a stable hands so I can get a sharper picture. Nonetheless, I like what I have achieve with the picture. Wish had more time to go around and enjoy the scene even more.

Pied The Piper

These are a part of a big 'ochestra' that accompanied the stage performance that was held at the open air show. A lot of people, local and foreign tourist, were there watching the story of 'dewa' of the Indonesian Hindus believes. The show was quite interesting, although I do not understand any word of the dialogue being narrated, but the action is understood. Good vs Evil and Good will prevail at the end of the day. I remember leaning or staying still when I took the picture since lights are quite low.

Tambing

Major transportation for one to go to their houses is to use water taxi. A 'terminal' for this transportation is located at a 'tambing'. The water taxis have evolved very little from the time it were use some hundred years ago. All water taxis are made of wood, and the only different now is, before paddles were used, now outboard engines gives the horses at the back. Typical charges are B$1 and sometimes 50 cents which is considered very cheap. Of course, no life jacket is provided and the risk is not insurance covered. My two cents on that matter.

Among Giants

Auckland is a sprawling city of the old colonial days and the modern. The city remind me of New York and also remind me of London. But of course the different is the city pride itself of their marine heritage. There's a dedicated museum pertaining to the Kiwis adventure in the open sea. in fact there's a showcase of a competition yatch that won a title not so long ago. (I can't really recalled what they have won and achived though). This picture was taken on the Skytower, one of the major attraction of the city.

Lost In Translation

Cambodia treasures a lot of ancient temple and temple ruins depicting an era which is beyond their time. Buildings made by carefully carved rocks assembled into a gigantic structure for the purpose of satisfying their gods or the wishes of the king which was one of the Jayavarman. The city encroaches a wide area around Siem Reap. One can assume and imagine how big the city was and modern with proper irrigation for crops and have some hospital and library at the same time and yet could not stand the test of time. Something to ponder.

Driving to Sabah is an adventure on its own that I do not mind going through it again. The scenery is great and you have time to bond with your family on the way there since 90% of the time you spend your time together in a car. The fun part is the driving. The not so fun part is the waiting. The long queue for the immigration post and the ferry was too much. I think, we wasted around 6 hours just waiting in line. But in the end, the destination is reached and satisfaction was felt. Its an accomplishment for the first time traveller on the road and I do felt Ive achieved that.

The Beverly Hills Hotel

The Beverly Hills Hotel is the most famous hotel among the stars of the silverscreen in Hollywood. The classic design does give it a 60's vibe all around. To compare with modern hotel at other places, The Beverly is lack behind in my honest opinion. Its just that the name and of its association of glitz and glamour does give an extra umph. Although only a stopover before flying off to another country, its an experience that I will never forget for the rest of my life. Unless, of course, if there is other thing crops up in the future, I will change my statement then.

Stone Statues

I was heading towards the nearest MRT terminal when I spotted this. The area is a business district and is always busy. It is so busy that they need to put some statues to remind them that. It actually add to the atmosphere and scene to a unique Singapore. I remember that the streets were still busy with cars heading back home or going off to some club. And I still remember that I was hurrying to get something to eat and yet still have some time setting up my tripod to exposed a frame or two for this statues.

Shoe Shine

How shiny can a shoe goes after being polished by a professional? I bet it does have a huge different when compared to a none polished one like this guy in the picture. When you see this kind of thing makes you wonder how lucky I am in Brunei Darussalam that we rarely see this kind of scene.

Bali Fishing

I was strolling the beach just before Maghrib when a saw a few people trying their luck in catching some fishes using fish rod. Probably the fake 'fly' does work considering the condition of the light and the property of the 'fly' itself make some fishes wanted to 'taste' it. If they manage to 'taste' it, some people are luckyto have fresh fish for dinner that night. The who do not will go empty handed and also emoty stomach.

The arch symbolises the 25 years of the changing of Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan. Its one of the very few landmarks that Bandar Seri Begawan has to offer. Its simple in its creation and design and yet it holds one of the city's history. Probably they will build another piece for Bandar Seri Begawan to remember by when it turns 50. Arc de Triomphe anyone?

Santiago is very much alive of people with different culture and background. When I did my walkabout in the city, I pretty much enjoy it. Although Im a bit worried lost in the city where I cannot speak the language that is Spanish. From the people I talked to during the meeting, they said it themselve that their spanish slang is a bit different. Even spanish from spain would not understand them just because they talked quite fast. Something to ponder I guess.

The Great Wall of China

You have to be there to believe it. Its humongous. To think that the Chinese are able to build one is technological feat and it was done few hundred years ago! The climb up was challenging and we only go up as far as the checkpoint to the certificate. The cold weather does help reduces the persperation. I also remembers the steps are quite high considering the average Chinese is around 5' 3" to 5' 6" (I'm guessing here!) and it will be very difficult for soldiers to go up and down the wall in a predetermined period.

Kuwait Tower

The Kuwait Tower is one of the major attraction of Kuwait where one tower serve as water containment unit and the other tower served as a lookout point of the city. During my visit over to the tower, the host country held an informal dinner. We were serve with plenty of food, chatting away with the night lights coming from all direction. I remember where some of the wall features pictures of the destruction and defacing of the tower during the Iraqi invasion. The Kuwaitis will never forget and so did I.

Budha Pray

The Bayon Temple is home of some of the Budha statues that was left for show. Some of them are still prayed upon by the believers of stone like the one shown. The rest are just one of the tourist attraction. Somehow yellow was the colour of choice from the cloth to the flowers. It seems that candles also plays a major roles.

A commemorative engraved stone for the disposed President of Pakistan not long time ago. I do not see Pakistan is much more safer now then it was before. With the bombing of Marriot last October, the very hotel that we stayed when we were there, gave a clear signal that terror threat is a well and alive. It was just too much politic spearheading and fronting their own agendas for their bloody own benefit. They should think of the country first and self second for situation is improved. We stopped by this particular park late and it was dark before we went off to the peak to have our dinner. Leaned on a pole to minimise camera shake.

Matchstick People

Mecca was the melting pot for people of different races few thousands years ago. A lot has change since then. Mecca is really modern with tall buildings and apartments occupying the skylines. Its inevitable that the demand of people from all over the world to perform their Umrah and Hajj all year long made the Saudi Authority to think about the development of Mecca into a proper city. One of the recent development was a proper mall that was made to complement the place. This particular picture was taken on the floor of the entrance of the mall. Imaginative and interesting.

The Tasek Lama was use to be the main source of water for the consumption of the local. With the population growing exponentially, alternative sources have to be identified and measures has to be taken for the continual supply of water. Now the Tasek Lama is a recreational area with many attraction and promotion of healthy life. Its a popular place for the locals and expats to have a break after work or during the weekends breathing the fresh air and the relaxing sounds of the waterfall.

The Red Door

We had a ride on the tricycle going through the alleys of an old Beijing where people still occupied the areas. According to our tour guide, there are plans to level the place to make way of a new development. I do not know why the Chinese government is more than happy to part with their past. Its part and parcel of a cultured society that paint the heritage where they should be proud of. Its a very interesting society to be honest and should be an envy of the rest of the world.

The city centre of Santiago was full of life and colour. You can see a lot of things happening. Some just sit on the bench and watch the life passes by. Other play some chess at the predesignated area. Some even come from the mountains or rural areas, selling their trades. I just came out from the church where I saw the reflection off a modern glass building. The church itself has a Spanish touch to it reflecting the history of Chile is once a Spain's colony. Year 2008 saw the crazy prize increase of commodity, property and everything else which is closely related to oil. Oil producing nations enjoy a high price of oil of almost $150 a barrel at one time. Every economist knows that price range is not sustainable in the long run. I would assume the price hike is probably caused by the high demand of China which was busy with building infrastructure for the Olympics games. Of course Dubai also plays a major role in sudden increase of demand. Weather, major accidents and any other that effect supply and demand so suddenly. 2008 also saw a bust in the global economies where it started from America and affects other economies which have interest in their 'loan'. The meeting was over and I have a few hours to go around Bangkok to take some pictures with my new found friend who have the same interest. We decided to go the Chao Phraya River Ride. I was a bit disappointed. I always imagine that the river ride will be smooth sailing like any other ride that Ive been to. Calm and collective and enjoy the ensuing views. Not the Chao Phraya River Ride. You'll get everything but the calmness and relaxation. I did not know that the river was That busy. That dirty. That hectic. That crowded. That noisy. I only manage to go to 1/8 of the total attraction since time was limited. This particular picture was taken at the flower market where they sell varieties of locally produce flowers. Zoomed at the mid length of the 24-105 lens.

Putra Mosque

The Putra Mosque is one of the main attraction in the Centre of Putra Jaya. Apart from a place of worship, it also renders a grandeur design of a very attractive facade. The surrounding does complement how the whole Putrajaya was visioned and conceived. But somehow, when we went there to have a look, the place look empty since its the only time its 'happening' is during the working hours. No social activities can be seen after hours. opted to use the 24mm wide end to capture the essence of the beautiful view.

Pasar Malam

Pasar Malam is one of the place to get plenty of good food on the cheap. It usually started from 4ish in the evening till really late at night. Patrons of the Pasar Malam can't help but buy a lot of small bits and pieces of local Kueh, Nasi Katok, varieties of Mees, Juices and some munch-munch. Its been a while that I did not go to Pasar Malam since we opted to cook at home and avoid buying a lot of food and wasted away. This place is usually packed during the payday where you can't hardly find a parking spot. Taken at the wide end.

Kalimah

We were given the opportunity to see the Kiswah being intricately made tirelessly by the dedicated experts. Verse from The Al-Qur'an are sewn using gold thread and all are being paid for by the Saudi Arabia Government. The last time I heard, it cost a few millions Saudi Riyals for a finished Kiswah. The Kiswah will replace the old one during the Haj Season before the The Eid. Shot at the mid range of the 24-85mm.

Paintings

This is one of many replicas paintings found in many parts of the Winter Palace in Beijing. From what I gather from the tour guide is that the original paintings together with the palaces and supporting quarters were burned down during the world war and some paintings might be stolen by the European fighters. Typical. The tour guide told me that the Chinese Government is trying in vain to reclaim their lost heritage where some of the relics are exhibited in museums in Europe. We just our lunch hosted by the Kuwaiti Tax Authority where we had a few moments to ourselves and took a breather from a hectic schedule. We were walking around the small town of Mauree hill which has a welcoming banner for the conference attendee. Acres upon acres can be seen where the local people plant cabbages for their produce to be consumed either locally or exported. Sabah is well known for the agriculture products. Other famous one is the Sabah Tea. Of course, to achieve that stature, they have to rely heavily on chemical where Sabah agriculture products is also famous for. Tuk Tuk

It was raining heavily that night, and we were waiting for a complimentary Tuk Tuk ride going to the nearest BTS. This Tuk Tuk is a bit special since it can accomodate about 6-8 people per journey. It was a short 3 minutes ride, but the rain delay the ride quite a bit. Water coming from the side but the cover does make a diffrent from soaking wet to just wet. Wide end and crop to emphasise subject.

Reading habit is a good thing to have for one's mental and intellectual development. I for one is all for it. Usually bookworm is 'trapped' in their own world imagining things that is only projected in narrative explanation. The reader have to visualise what the writer want to deliver. Brunei Darussalam celebrate The Sultan's birthday every 15th July of every year. Its a showcase of uniformed discipline and the elegance of the tradional Bruneian culture in mengadap ceremony when His Majesty deliver his titah usually in the Balai Singgahsana Indera Pura. During this time usually a major announcement is made for the good of the country. When I took this shot, I have to hold my breath and the IS was working overtime since I do not have a monopod to keep it steady at 400mm.

Minaret

Massive structure towering the height of Masjidilharam at Mecca. The minaret in the old days is very functional when calling for the prayer. The muazzein will climb up the minaret and perform the Azan. Now it is just part of a mosque. Loudspeakers are put onto it instead of the muazzein. Majority of them are not even consume in Singapore. Its just a transit point before being shipped out of the country to its respective destination and you make millions out of it. The hop-on-hop-off bus trip was suppose to bring us around Dubai modern areas consists of hotels and resorts and to visit some historic places Dubai has to offer including a boat rride crossing the river . I only manage to view Dubai modern area since I was pressed for time. One of the stop is to see the Burj from a beach front. Definitely I do not want to miss the opportunity and took a couple of pictures of the L-E-G-E-N-D-A-R-Y 7 star hotel. Shot using the 100-400mm.

The Gang

They were sitting on the top of a small hill opposite Uhud Hill where according to history told by the mutawib was the hill of the archers during the War of Uhud. It used to be quite high, but recent government initiatives, reduce it to a hill of not more than 30 feet high. We can see the red colour of Uhud Hill in its entirity from there and the weather was a bit breezy and hanging out there is not that bad. Taken at 300mm.

It was an eye opening trip where we were treated by the hospitable hosts of relaxation and a break from an intense meeting in the resort of Mauree Hills and PC Burbhan. The winding road going up the hills was all but forgotten when we reached our destination. The mountain range of the Himalayas is worth a few miles of twisty and dangerous road. We were one of many approved photographers for the Sultan's Birthday Celebration, assigned to the various part of the Taman Omar Ali Saiffudien, recording the annual event. I came a few occasion either as official guest and as annoymous Andy. I remember where photgraphers were not that many, I have free access around the Taman. Now that there are many, numbers are controlled and special passes has to be issued. All in good spririt I guess. This was taken at the long end of the 400mm, outside the fence of the taman.

Kung Fu : The Show

Sitting two rows from the front, I was there at the right moment to see the performers flying off the stage. There was no narrative, so we have to figure out the story from the performance. It was about a boy who lives in the monastery where the monk teaches Kung Fu. He also grew up and fell in love and somehow the story also includes war and bloodshed. It was action packed and I was definitely entertained for the whole 2 hours. 50mm with ISO400.

Spanish is their national language and a Chilean official told me that their Spanish are much more complex than the Spanish themselves even a Spanish have a difficulty of understanding them! Dubai is changing overnight. Construction and Deconstruction is a daily occurrence with majority of world cranes are in Dubai. The blue colour workers are mostly from the Asian Regions with varying specialties. They have man made islands up for sale at the right price. Under water city is planned, an amusement park and the good thing about it, they have not finished! They also want to build up Sharjah, one of the neigbouring city into a Mega City, whatever that means. This particular person is also enjoying her time in Dubai embracing the sun and gain some tan. Siem Reap is a place of many temple dedicated to their god Budha and later on Hindu build by a King with a vision to embrace religion as part of their being. If I remember right, it was one King Jayavarman who is solely responsible for the erection of such temple, palaces, public utilities, roads and many other mega projects during his reign. It was a magnificent sight observing the dilapidated ruins of such a magnitude in land area and size. The monks being captured here was probably a few of many that still hold true to Buddhism to their one and only religion. Taken at the 105mm end.

Bar is a place to wind down after a long day in the office. It is an acceptable culture where alcohol is serve like fizzy drinks. This is the place where talking nonsense is abundant and pick up lines are used in many forms to impress the opposite sex if the attraction is there. The lucky ones will go back home lonely while the unlucky ones will have an adventurous night. With all kind of diseases floating around in the air and with strangers, consider ones have a second chance or a lifeline of not contracting such disease. They were called upon to entertain the crowd of mostly relatives in place of some karaoke. They could have done some practice and have a proper playlist of what they would be playing that night. The performance was not too bad considering the lack of practice and patch up bands of mostly cousins. This band can really play some tunes with a Pakistani twist. Its really enjoyable to see them perform with the Himalayas Range at the background. We were having a day off after a hectic observation of papers being put forward and analyse albeit the language barrier. This was taken on the golf course of PC Bhurban. I remember the other delegates were practicing their golf swings teeing off at a prepared location while I was enjoying the sceneries and relaxing, inhaling fresh air from the mountains. What a way to relax after a meal of Pakistanis dishes. Briyani anyone?!

The symbol of Islamic Faith. A mosque that was build on the ground of the house of the Prophet SAW. One cannot help but observe the serenity of the mosque during iktiqaf. No riyals is spared to make the mosque accessible and comfortable for all muslims. To take a picture of the mosque, although at a great distance is not advisable since the security will warn you not to take any. You have to be very discreet and not to attract attention. I was stop a couple of times. I have no malice intention but just an urge to keep a memory of the mosque by exposing a few frames. Taken after the subuh prayer at 50mm.

The legacy of the Chinese Dynasties that rule China for hundred of years can be seen as a testament how wealthy and powerful ruler they are on the expense of the citizens. A palace of pleasure during those days and now a tourist attraction. From the size of the area, it was a massive undertaking beyond imagine to realise an eccentric vision to please an individual. Imagine the number of workforce involved, the time spent and the number of death to complete the mega project. I personally cannot imagine. Massively crop to focus on the subject.

Every advance nation usually have some sort of a landmark to fill the skyline. New York with its Empire Building, Malaysia with the Petronas, Singapore with the Esplanade, Taiwan with the Tower 101, France with the Eiffel. You get the idea. The Kiwis have the Sky Tower for show. It showcases the Auckland in 360 Degrees, viewable in all direction. This structure offers a lot of activities including climbing the tower using the stairs, bungee jumping and all crazy stuff that the Kiwis might think of. Of course everything comes with a price. No freebies. But of course taking this picture is at no cost. Snapped at the 24mm.

Putrajaya is Malaysia's Government centre of administration. It move to this less crowded area during the Mahathir Era where Mega Projects were abundant. The place really look like a theme park in Disneyland. Roads and gardens are properly maintain and to top it off, they have a man made lake as a feature for Putrajaya. I remember there is the Royal Palace for the Selangor Sultanate opposite this very picture. Its magnificent nonetheless with the design is influenced by the American buildings in the 1800 probably. Thats what I though anyway. All the ministries are located in this place, but they still maintain their premises outside this area performing other function. Taken at the 24mm end of the lens and the camera was rested on a stone 'rail' to maintain from having a camera shake.

Bali economic activities depend highly on tourist flocking the beach, the wave, the bar and the babes all paid for in Rupiah. One of the main attraction is the flat, long sandy beach. All is done I guess in the beach of Bali. Massage, Surfing, Running, Strolling, Playing Volleyball, Fishing, Eating and all you can think off. All is done at / on / off the beach. What can you do?! The beach is that attractive. The early morning breeze is at the right temperature and the crowd is pleasant and the sunrise / sunset takes your problems away for a brief moment. Probably that was just me. This was taken while waiting for the sunset which did not come that day at the wide 17mm.

This was taken during the National Day of Brunei Darussalam. They were a lot of local photographers doing it for fame and money and they were also doing it for fun. For us, it was for the latter. Plenty of subjects to capture but to be different from the rest of the photographers, the rule of at 'the right time and the right place' still applies. Looking at a few webpages, its very hard to appreciate the pictures as most of the them have the same style and subjects where sometime you wonder whether to take a photo old school where people stand with a background at the back. I am contemplating to the retro style one of this days but it had to be for the right occasion. I remember taking the subjects pretty close since the lens was really that wide.

Kinabalu

The Kinabalu Mountain has a summit height of 4,095m which is known as Low's Peak (I assume thats the name of the person that claimed to be the first to reach the summit and publicised it). I bet the locals reached the peak first and not Low. Stand to be corrected though. It was a beautiful sight to see as the creation of Allah The Almighty took form and shape complete with the lighting effect of a sunset. I went to Mesilau Golf Range to take this photo. It was a tiring drive from Kota Kinabalu to go the place where we stayed for three nights. But the trip was worth while since we were presented with a lovely climate and fascinating sights. No human can possibly think that a big lump of rock would be a centre of attention from all over the world. It is also listed as World Heritage Site administered by UNESCO. Taken during sunset and the picture is slightly crop.

These bunch of men really know how to perform. Gentlemen and Ladies alike was heard clapping and shouting with the traditional Kuwaitis folklore songs. I for one enjoyed their interesting songs. In fact a person from our group was really into the performance of the troupe that he started to dance away like he owns the place. We had a good laugh of his unexpected action and made our day. It is proven that you do not need alcohol to enjoy yourself. Its all in ones head. The room has very little light and it was expected the shutter speed would be slow. Used the table as an impromptu tripod and the result was as envisioned. Exposed at the 24mm end.

Intriguing traditional Bali Dance makes me wonder who really have time in the past to actually come with this kind of entertainment and to preserve this day in age does show how determine the people are in making the culture sticks for another millennium. I was made to understand every movement, posture, no matter how minute it was, does tell some sort of a story of mythical god, ruler of the past, happy dance, motivational song or anything in that line. The dance was accompanied by the traditional instruments and tempo of the dance was influence by the beat of the music. These particular Bali Dancers are from the local academy of traditional dance. Taken using the 50mm wide open at f1.4. Still camera shake due to low ISO film and not really ideal condition.

Dome of The Gold

The Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque is one of the most breathtaking mosque around South East Asia or probably The World. Built some 50 years ago, it was 'The Building' dominating the Bandar Seri Begawan skyline where during that time, it was the highest man made structure then. You have to really see it for yourself to really appreciate the architecture, the beauty and the attention to details given in designing the mosque. Tourist will definitely stop over to the mosque to pose for pictures for their reminder of how serene Brunei Darussalam actually is. I for one cannot help it taking occasional picture of it every now and then although I already have a few personal collection of the mosque. Probably it looks different from different angle. Probably. Taken at the 400mm end of the lense. Image Stabilisers are switch on to help reduce camera shake since I do not have a monopod.

Anybody who is anybody who loves music definitely know iPod. Who would have thought this MP3 player will be a global success? If anyone foresees the success of iPod and eventually Apple, surely a lot of people would have bought their shares back when Apple was not performing really well in the late 80's and early 90's. I do not know whats the craze about this 'walkman' of the new millennium. I know it has more than music player function and adds video capabilities, so whats the big deal? Probably its just convenience for the user living in a busy life. iPod does help when traveling I have to agree with that. With long journey in all that. But phones nowadays also have the capability to have a function of music player, vidoe player, games and even internet. Will iPod be in our life forever or just a phase in history like the walkman does in the mid 70s till late 80s. Im not dumping my MiniDisc just yet and be an iPod user. The Twin Tower

The Petronas Twin Tower puts Malaysia on the map of who's who on the World's Tallest Building list. It was made during the Mahathir era and now a well known landmark that is closely associated with Malaysia. Whether it makes money is another matter but it does take your breath away - for a bit - when you first saw it, but once you get into the KLCC Suria Mall, it felt like any other malls in the world. We were on a day trip around KL during a course I attended somewhere in Kajang. This particular exposed negative was taken from the bridge connecting the two towers.

Caught Somewhere In Time

It was late in the evening and the Adzan for Maghrib Prayer can be heard from miles away and the citizens of Kampong Ayer is hurrying back to their place using the water taxi hailed from a far. We were on an impromptu photo-outings starting from Kota Batu to Bandar Seri Begawan which leads us to edge of Brunei River. Like any other photo enthusiast, photo opportunities should not be missed, but utilise. So we stop by the road, sets up the tripod and click away. Picture taken was using Shutter Priority at the wide 24mm.

The Civic Theatre

It was a long day of intense discussions and friendly negotiations from 9am till 6pm and shops in Auckland shut at 7pm! Time for shopping in the City Centre was really limited and the only place that opens past 7 were the Pubs, McD, Restaurants and Kebabs Place. I have very little choice and kebabs was dinner at one of the nights since McDs fish fillet started to taste like a really really bad sandwich after a while. Anyhow, The Civic Theater was situated at one of the main street in Auckland. According to Wikipedia, it is 'the largest surviving atmospheric cinema in Australasia' whatever that means. It is a typical european type of architecture which is build to last. Shades of gold and incidental light of the eventual sunset makes the building stands out and worth the exposed frame. Zoomed at 85mm and hand held.

The Bread Shop

This is one of those picture that you just snapped away when it catches your eye. Everyone knows Bangkok is a busy city with smog dominating the skyline. But you cannot miss the creativity of shop owners by having a designer bread shop with some interesting structures to go along with it with one intention in mind : to attract customers. I for one was 'pulled' like a tractor beam, turning my head and have a peep at the shop. I was thinking of going to the shop and prep myself to some donuts while browsing through the shop and have a look at what they got to offer. But then it was Bangkok. Not everything is 'halal'. So I decided not to cross the road and and save some kilojoules. This shop was situated around Siam Square and taken at 50mm or 85mm end of the lens.

Personally, I really like this picture. I was walking around the city centre in Santiago when I spot the lady sitting there as if waiting for someone and observing her surrounding. I remember trying not to be bloody obvious when taking her picture. But with a big camera lugging around my neck, its hard not to be noticed. It was a busy day and its actually quite difficult not to be obvious, to keep the line of view clear while trying to framed your subject. I do not even know how the people around the place would react and think about strangers taking a picture of other strangers. I always keep this in mind 'try to blend in no mater how hard it was'. Blending part was easy since I have the same skin tone and appearance with the locals. But Ill be loss for words if they decided to talk in their native tongue since I do not blurb any Spanish! In the end I managed to expose a few frame of her and was really satisfied with the result. Taken at the 85mm end and with enough light, camera shake was avoided.
